Job Description:

Under indirect supervision, provides primary care, assessment and evaluation to critically and/or chronically ill newborn infants. Serves in a teaching capacity and/or may supervise clinical staff in patient care activities.

Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in Nursing with a emphasis in NNP program
  • Minimum of 2 years experience as a Neonatal/NICU NNP in a level II or III CCS accredited facility within the last 3 years
  • Current CA Registered Nurse License, current BLS/CPR, neonatal certification, certification from accredited NNP program approved by the Board of Registered Nursing

  • License/Certifications: Current CA RN license, Nurse Practitioner certification, current PALS and BLS, and Furnishing and DEA number.
  • Previous Job Related Experience: Minimum three years experience as a pediatric RN

The Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant functions under the Neonatologist.  Attends high risk deliveries and prepares for potentially compromised newborns.  Provides daily care and medical management of high risk infants in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.  Assesses patient condition, performs physical examinations and develops appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic plans. Identifies needs for and interprets diagnostic lab reports and or radiologic studies.  Manages respiratory interventions and identifies need for and performs medical procedures.  Discusses medical problems and therapeutic interventions with attending physicians.  Assumes clinical management for neonatal transports from referring hospitals. Participates in data collections and interpretation of clinical research.  Develops, coordinates, implements and evaluates educational activities for designated are(s) of responsibility.  Maintains and updates clinical knowledge and actively seeks opportunities to broaden clinical expertise.  Participates as member of health care team to develop policies, clinical protocols and evaluation tools. Adheres to system and department compliance policies, and any applicable laws and regulations.

Requirements:
Broad knowledge of the advanced and clinically specialized disciplines of PA/NP. Must have previous health care experience. Emergency medicine or Primary Care experience preferred. Must be able to work independently in a fast paced environment. Knowledge of physical assessment, Emergency medicine procedures, and patient care. Excellent communication and patient teaching skills required. Certification as PA or NP required.
